I encountered my first ghost when I was six years old. My grandparents were renting a large two story house in Brinkley, AR. My family moved in with them when my dad had back surgery and was out of work.
Shortly after moving in the family was in the living room watching TV and we heard the front door open, close and then footsteps going up the stairs. There was also the sound of a tool box or tackle box of some kind. We listened until the footsteps reached the top of the stairs and then my mother went into the front bedroom where my grandfather slept. She woke him up and told him about what we heard. He laughed and told her that there was nothing to worry about. It was just Mr. Campbell (the man that had owned the house). Mr Cam bell had been a carpenter and had purchased the house to fix up and rent out. He purchased the materials and had them placed in one of the bedrooms upstairs. He then passed away without finishing the upstairs. According to my grandpa he had died worrying about not having finished the job so that his son could rent the house out. Every night we would hear the same entry into the house and up the stairs to where we slept. Because of the noises coming from the upstairs bedrooms on the left side of the stairway everyone moved their beds into the bedroom on the right side of the stairway. In other words because of this ghost and his nightly activities there were 7 people sleeping in four beds in one bedroom! Every morning the other bedrooms would have "remodeling work" done in them. Door frames hammered into place, window frames, new paint on the walls. Then when he had finished those rooms to his satisfaction he moved into the room where we slept. That night we listened to him hammer away putting a window frame around the window and the frame around the door. Needless to say we got no sleep at all. But the next morning we saw the work that had been done and there was not a single hammer mark on the wood where the nails had been driven in. The window and door frame was perfect in every way. That was when his visits stopped.
